From a young age, the "mercado típico" became a fascination for us. The rush of wandering from stall to stall, looking for just the right piece to take back home was something to look forward to every time we travelled to Guatemala. And it was truly a treasure hunting expedition – there was nothing like it back home and if you weren't quick enough, you might never see something quite like the small pouch or beaded bracelet you didn't purchase on the spot.
Fast forward to today and we've decided to bring the "mercado típico" experience to the comfort of your own home. At mala bags you'll find one-of-a-kind, handmade, and authentically beautiful pieces in a carefully curated collection.
Headquartered in the USA, mala bags is run by all women in partnership with artisans in Guatemala.
